Our building is now a participant in Re-fashion NYC — a partnership between the city government and Housing Works to make clothing donation as easy as possible. A donation bin has been conveniently installed in our courtyard for your donations of any clean fabric or material, including clothing, towels, linens, curtains, or clean rags, as well as accessories such as belts and handbags. You can deposit the items loose or in clear plastic bags. Tax donation forms are available on the outside of the bin. Our donations will be picked up and transported to a Housing Works warehouse in Queens for sorting. Some donations will be sold in Housing Works’ shops throughout NYC or at one of their “all you … More

The new gym has been completed! It is in the basement in the room that used to house the bike room (which is now across the hall). There will be a nominal fee of $150 per household, per year. Access is available for shareholders and their families. You can download the necessary forms here or pick them up from the lobby desk. All forms will need to be signed and returned (along with your check) before you are given access to the facility.
The facility will be open 24 hours a day. We have a security camera by the entryway (but not in the facility itself) in case you were concerned. There are two elliptical trainers, a treadmill and a recumbent bicycle, as well as a universal weight set, cable weight machine, pull-up bar, free weights, a dumbbell bench (that also converts to a sit-up bench), medicine balls, stretch cords and core balls. The room is also equipped with a flat screen TV, spring water and wifi access.
A few of you have expressed concerns about air quality in the basement, and I want to let you know that we tested the air a few weeks ago and were told it’s fine.
I want to personally thank everyone who helped complete this project in breakneck speed. Ellen Kornfeld was phenomenal — dealing with each and every vendor and staying on them to get everything done right away. She even gave me a personal tour of a gym in another building she manages so we could get some ideas–all while nursing an injured leg. Ed, along with Tony, Miguel and Dermot worked many hours gratis to prepare the room, including wiring the electricity, smoothing walls and ceilings and painting. Each board member also contributed in the planning and design, selection of items, and preparation of documents. In other words, a great team effort by all.
I hope you enjoy it. I’ll see you at the gym!
The Board is pleased to announce that we have hired Ubiel Penafort as our newest doorman. Ubiel was most recently a host and doorman at the Hotel Edison, where he honed the skills that made him an excellent candidate. He has been with us on a trial basis for the last several weeks and the board decided this week to extend him a permanent offer. We are delighted to have Ubiel in our building. More
Hi everyone, As I mentioned at the spring shareholder meeting last week, we will be building a fantastic gym in the basement. The current bike room will be transformed into a gym with 4 cardio machines, a universal weight set, dumbbells and cable weights. We are pushing to get this done by the end of May. We will be moving the bikes into the smaller conference room by mid May. In order to fit all of the bikes, we will be utilizing a two-tier bike rack. The bottom tier will be reserved for women and children who are frequent users. If you fit in this category, please email me to reserve a bottom space–first come, first served. BY MAY 15TH, … More
It was great seeing many of you last night at the spring shareholder meeting. Special thanks to Lisa Overton for finding us such a great space for the meeting and ordering the delicious food from Piccolo Cafe. We covered a lot in this meeting, including the latest on the Local Law facade repair work, plans for elevator modernization, boiler conversion, personnel changes and the state of our finances. I’ll recap a few of the highlights here: 1. We have decided to convert our heating from #6 oil (which is the cheapest, but most polluting oil) to natural gas. This makes financial sense, as well as enhance our ability to be a greener building. 2. The scaffolding will be removed from … More
I hope 2012 has been off to a great start for all of you. As we head into the second quarter, I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the state of our co-op.
We have endeavoured to improve communications in the building through the formation of a Communications Committee of shareholders and board members, the implementation of the Complaints Policy, and through an encouragement of active dialogue between board members and shareholders. I have heard from many of you, and More
